yesterday i lay out my mat and prepared to align my chakras with the aid of my handy chakra deck. this wonderful deck of cards has been in my possession for years now and has helped me through the ups and downs of life. as we find ourselves on the last two months of our caribbean journey i am beginning to feel the transitional pull of the imminent uprooting. i must let go of my island life and it's not something i am easily giving up.
during my yoga sessions i look out at this from my living room.
the medical school journey michael is taking us on brought us to the beautiful island of st. maarten for 20 months and in a short while we will return to america for the next phase of the journey. we are not sure yet where we will be placed for clinical rotations. but, we do know it will not be on an island in the tropics. we must allow ourselves to be open to where we will be led to next and it's not something that comes without a struggle for me. the unknowing is perhaps the hardest part. not being able to start researching a location or housing accommodations well in advance makes my heart beat a little faster. i am a planner. i like to be in control. this is something we have very little if any control over.
some of the grounding meditations that were especially helpful to me yesterday were:
i am grounded and balanced. i am safe and secure.
i am in the flow of my life.
i am able to surrender my fears.
my little fearless flyer up above made the beautiful arrangement of chakra cards while i was working out my fears. it is amazing what a scan of the different energy centers in your body can do for you. i am grateful to have this ancient practice so readily at my fingertips. i am feeling much better already. some other suggestions for balancing the sacral chakra (which is the one that brought the most release of tension for me) are to get a massage, enjoy favorite pieces of music, take a warm bubble bath, and do gentle yoga.

i love the card arrangements your little one laid out. it sounds like a very centering practice too!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise that you don't have a choice of where Michael is positioned. It's like being a teacher in France, they change location often. Fingers crossed you end up somewhere nice. I'm sure you will. What are chakra cards? - I like the sound of them.
ReplyDeleteI can understand your fear of not having any control of the near future. However, I can't help but think there must be a certain sense of excitement. I tend to approach such transitions in life with anticipation of the new adventures with that little man by your side. i sound like i wouldn't be at all nervous of the change but i would be. i think i would feel much like you do, anushka. But just think of the adventure with that little man by your side.
ReplyDeleteThis is familiar to me. My husband's medical education was so consuming of our energy. It dictated much of our lives at the time. And we did not have children then! His career continues to be a central axis of our lives. His schedule, call days, fatigue. Yet, it is also very satisfying - he loves his work and truly sees the mission to help people as central. The children see this and understand this. I guess I can say that things get more predictable, things settle in. Right now is the time to take it as it comes. It will seem quite brief in retrospect. Make sure to find new friends along the way - that has always been important to me. Now, I need to find a set of these cards!
ReplyDeletei don't have these cards but i would like them. i'm glad they helped you when you used them. everything you are describing is normal and i think to be expected, the unknown does that to most everyone. but i know you'll be fine and once you do find out, everything will fall into place.
ReplyDeletei've missed being here!
